AdventureQuest 3D is one of the newer MMORPGs relatively speaking. It has all of the elements that a mobile MMORPG would normally have. That includes co-op, PvP, cross-platform support between iOS, Android, and computers, and tons of loot. We really liked this one because it's easily accessible, easy to play, and we always prefer our MMORPGs with cross-platform support. It is a freemium title, though, and that's not ideal. However, most MMORPGs on mobile are freemium and this one isn't as bad as most others.

Arena of Valor is one of the most popular MOBAs in all of mobile gaming. It features five versus five combat in the classic MOBA style. That means you and your teammates must take down enemy towers. The game also features over 40 heroes, several other game modes (including one versus one and three versus three), 10 minute matches, and more. This is about as good as it gets in the MOBA space and the genre is inherently multiplayer by nature. It's also a freemium game, but not like typical freemium games. Those who find that they don't like this MOBA may also want to try Vainglory. It's another top tier MOBA title.

The Asphalt series is among the best racing games on mobile. Asphalt Xtreme is probably the best among the Asphalt games. It features well over 400 career events, 500 challenges, and the usual array of limited time events that many mobile games do these days. Additionally, there are 35 vehicles to pick from (expect that number to grow) and a very robust online multiplayer experience. Those who played Asphalt 8 already know what this one is all about.
Price: Freemium / Varies
MADFINGER Games makes several excellent FPS games on mobile. They include the famous Dead Trigger series, UNKILLED, and the popular Shadowgun franchise. Several of those titles, including UNKILLED, Shadowgun: DeadZone, and the latest Shadowgun Legends include online multiplayer support. Frankly, you can go with any of them. UNKILLED is a mission style shooter with zombies and tons of stuff to do. The Shadowgun series is a more traditional FPS shooter experience. They're all freemium games, but they're better about it than most other freemium games.
Price: $6.99 with in-app purchases
Minecraft is one of the most popular games in the world. The mobile versions (on iOS and Android) are actually basically the same as the desktop and console versions now. In fact, you can play on servers with people from those computers and consoles with this version of the app. For the uninitiated, Minecraft is a sandbox game where you mine stuff, build stuff, kill stuff, and show your creativity. The game uses simple graphics and controls for the best experience. It runs for $6.99 for just the game. You can rent servers for varying amounts per month or buy skins via in-app purchases.

Yes, people still play Pokemon Go. In fact, it's still among the most popular mobile games on the planet. The game is inherently multiplayer since it requires you to go out into the world and find Pokemon along with other things. Players assemble at Poke Stops and Gyms to perform various activities together. It remains one of the most unique mobiles, even years after its initial release. We hear a Harry Potter AR game is coming soon. That'll likely supplant Pokemon Go on this list next time we update.

PUBG Mobile and Fortnite are two of the most popular shooters of all time. Their respective fans enjoy debating which game is the best. We don't pick sides, they're both excellent. PUBG Mobile drops you onto an island with 99 other players. Your goal is to kill them all and live. Fortnite has a similar premise with a different execution and more stuff to do. Those who just want a simple run-and-gun FPS may want to try PUBG Mobile while those who enjoy a little more strategy may want to go with Fortnite. Fortnite is in beta at the time of this writing, but it shouldn't be for much longer.
Price: $2.99
Riptide GP: Renegade is among the best racing games on mobile. It also has gorgeous graphics, easy mechanics, and a unique premise. You play on wave runners instead of cars. The game features a trick system, a campaign mode, a local multiplayer, and an online multiplayer. Pair that with its single, non-freemium price tag and you have a rarity in the mobile space these days. It's not the most popular game ever. Thus, matchmaking times may be a little high as the system searches for other players. However, it's otherwise a great experience.
Price: Freemium
Supercell games are some of the most popular multiplayer games available anywhere. Their titles include Boom Beach, Clash of Clans, and Clash Royale. The first two are strategy games with kingdom building elements. Clash Royale is a card game similar to Hearthstone (another excellent multiplayer game, we might add). The games have the advantage of being easily accessible and taking forever to finish. We imagine people get sick of these games long before that happens, though. They do have their issues, but they're still usually pretty fun.
Price: Freemium (usually)
Zynga has a family of simple multiplayer games. You've likely heard of them before. Some of the titles include Words With Friends, Games With Friends, GIFs Against Friends, Chess With Friends, and others. These games all play the same way. You make your move within the game. It sends your move to the other player who responds in kind. Thus, these games are all super relaxed because you take your turn when you want to rather than sitting there and waiting for it. They're mostly family friendly, simple to play, and accessible.
